More Than Steps

A Different Kind of Camino

The Documentary More Than Steps follows best friends Justin Skeesuck and Patrick Gray as they lead a group of travelers with disabilities on the Accessible Camino, a groundbreaking adaptation of the historic Camino de Santiago. Against the stunning Spanish landscape, the film explores how this once-predictable pilgrimage transforms into a profound journey of potential, as participants overcome a variety of challenges and discover the transformative power of community, resilience, and love.

More Than Steps is a feature-length documentary that follows lifelong friends Justin Skeesuck & Patrick Gray as they return to Spain’s legendary Camino de Santiago.

But this time, their story is much bigger.

Joined by a group of pilgrims with disabilities and those who journey and support alongside them, they embark on the Accessible Camino—a reimagined pilgrimage that redefines what it means to move forward. As the miles and kilometers pass, the focus shifts from reaching the destination to embracing vulnerability, community, and the deep belonging found in a shared journey.

It’s about connection. It’s about flourishing. It’s about so much more than steps.

Past Accessible Camino Highlights

Day 6 – Accessible Camino 2024, The Final Stretch

On the final day into Santiago, the joy of reaching the square was matched by something even more powerful—many in the group returned to the square to celebrate with Divincenzo, a man they met days earlier who also navigates life with a disability. His encouragement lifted the group, and they had the chance to lift him. This is the heart of the Accessible Camino: facing challenges together, and choosing love every step of the way.

Day 2 – Accessible Camino 2022, Conquering the Roman Road

On one of the most challenging stretches of the Portuguese Camino, the group faced the ancient Roman Road—an uneven, rocky path that tests even seasoned pilgrims. For wheelchair users, it is a formidable obstacle. But through collective effort and unwavering support, pilgrims like Jeanine experienced the profound strength of community. This moment encapsulates the essence of the Accessible Camino: With all of us together, I am enough.
